Eisberg quality

Quality is in our ingredients, in our technology, in our approach, so that it is on your table.

Raw materials

The diversity of nature characterises the fresh, premium raw materials used in our salads. Our producers grow salads and vegetables mainly in the open air and using gentle methods. We have built up a trusted team of national and international suppliers who produce healthy, high-quality raw materials for us throughout the year, using careful, environmentally conscious cultivation. We have a long-standing, close relationship with them. Our agricultural experts provide growers with expert advice on salad types, ideal soil conditions, gentle production and harvesting methods. And they adhere to the strict standards of our uncompromising quality policy.

Part of the local
value chain

We process mainly domestic raw materials. This shortens our transport routes and protects the environment. This works partly thanks to a well-organised logistics system. The raw material is only from internationally certified contract growers, such as GlobalGap and GlobaGap Plus. In the factory in Gyal, representative samples of all raw materials supplied are taken and tested for a number of properties, and the results are used in the processing. Although our suppliers are professional growers who only spray when necessary, we also carry out random and repeated pesticide active ingredient checks.

Sustainability
and ethics

Innovation plays a vital role in our everyday lives. It’s the only way to provide customers with fresh, healthy products that meet the highest standards.

  • Minimise greenhouse gas emissions by using photovoltaic systems.

  • Reducing factory food waste to below 1%, for example by converting cooking oil into biodiesel.

  • The purified water is used for field irrigation, reducing water wastage.

  • Moving the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria to the risk management area.

  • Openness and equal opportunities in corporate governance: gender pay equity, diversity and inclusion culture.

  • Use of needs-based health programmes and safety measures.

  • 95% of the fruit and vegetables used meet the minimum sustainability requirements for agriculture.

  • We do not buy or use products that are banned for animal welfare reasons.

Technology

Any foreign material problems not detected during acceptance are filtered out during the multi-step manufacturing process:

  • manual pre-cleaning of the lettuce: the torsos, defective, wilted parts and any foreign matter are removed
  • mechanical slicing
  • grading: an optical grading machine with 7 colour, infra-red and laser cameras, filters out any foreign matter and product defects with a high degree of certainty
  • multi-stage washing: with controlled, potable quality, chilled water
  • 2-step insect screening
  • drying
  • mixing
  • mechanical packaging with the use of protective gas. The food shielding gas used for packaging is a modified atmosphere: a mixture of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

The team leader responsible for the process and the quality assurance staff monitor the quality of the product during the process. The product can only be dispatched if it has passed all the checks.

Certification

Eisberg has several private label food safety audits throughout the year, all of which are unannounced, and we consistently perform to a high standard. We achieved an AA+ BRC audit result in autumn 2024. We also hold ISO 14001 certification and an Ethics audit.
